EXPLORE THE ISLAND

Santorini attracts thousands of tourists every year who choose to come to this picturesque island and discover its charm.
The famous Volcano is located on Nea Kameni, which is an islet that faces the Caldera. It is only accessible by boat so you can book your own boat tour or catamaran cruise to get to see its black and red lava stones from up close. Of course, you also don’t want to miss the nearby hot springs in Palea Kameni. These are the result of volcanic activity and that’s why their water has a reddish hue. Take a swim in the hot springs and benefit from the therapeutic properties of the water.
Another well-known place that you should visit is, of course, the Caldera. This is a large and mostly submerged crater, which offers the visitors a stunning view to the Aegean Sea, as well as to the Volcano.

The traditional villages of Oia, Imerovigli and Firostefani are definitely worth visiting as they are wonderful sunset spots. In Oia, you will also be impressed by the unique architecture as the houses are built in the lava rock. Emporio also holds surprises as it has eight traditional windmills with an astounding view. While you are there, visit the medieval Kasteli, which is one of the five fortified castles in Santorini.
There are also amazing beaches on the island that stand out with their magnificent landscape. The Red Beach is the most famous one with red and black volcanic rocks on its shore, while Kamari Beach and Perissa Beach are also well-known for their black sand. Mesa Vouno at Kamari beach will leave a lasting impression on you as it rises from the sea.

Make sure you sample the local cuisine and get a taste of traditional recipes such as tomatokeftedes (fried tomatoes with vegetables and herbs), eggplant salad, moussaka and apochti (salted pork loin). The most popular type of traditional cheese is chlorotyri. Give it a try as its flavor is bound to stimulate your taste buds. If you are looking for a traditional sweet that is made with a Santorinian touch, try eating melitinia which is an Easter sweet made with unique ingredients.

Apart from the traditional dishes, the Santorinian wine with its exquisite flavor and its strong aroma will awaken your senses. Book a wine tour, discover the local vineyards and set out on a wine tasting experience that will remain etched on your memory forever.
If you want to get to know the history of the island, visit the Historical and Cultural Archaeological Museum in Fira where innumerable outstanding archaeological finds are on display. Ancient Thera is one of the most famous excavation sites where the archaeologists revealed a Hellenistic settlement. A tour on top of Mesa Vouno, where Ancient Thera is located, offers a stunning view to the visitors.

The Akrotiri lighthouse is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the tranquil village of Akrotiri. It is one of the most prominent locations from where you can gaze at the captivating, Santorinian sunset at dusk. It also has a breathtaking view to the Aegean Sea that will make you fall in love with the island even more.

If you are fond of hiking, there are numerous trails for you to follow and discover the natural beauty of the island. The amazing landscape and the exquisite view to the Aegean Sea will mesmerize you as you walk through places of unparalleled beauty.
